Rita C. Pernia, age 92, of Brighton, formally of Monroe, died Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Arbor Hospice in Ann Arbor. Friends may call from 1pm until 6pm Saturday and 2 pm until 5 pm Sunday at the Allore Chapel-Martenson Family Funeral Homes, 203 E. Elm., Monroe, MI. Funeral services are pending for Monday. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Erie. Born April 30, 1919 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Rita was the daughter of Michael & Catherine (Gollinger) Murray. She married Nicholas Pernia on February 22, 1941. Sadley he preceded her by death February 1, 2002. A dedicated homemaker, Rita was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Erie and a past member of St. Valentine Catholic Church in Redford as well as their Alter Societies. She loved caring for her family, the outdoors, playing cards, swimming , singing and dancing. Rita leaves to cherish her memory her children, Carolyn (Wayne) of Jenson Beach, Florida, Dwight ( Michele) Pernia of Farmington Hills, Les (Megan) Pernia of Livonia, Lori (Roger) Legris of Brighton, Julie (Paul) Cavanaugh of Madison Heights and Brian of Grosse Ile as well as a daughter-in-law Sharon Pernia of Pickney. She is a also survided by sixteen grandchildren, Gina, Scott, Diana, Nicholas, Benjamin, Austin, Kate, Brent, Rebecca, Bradley, Adam, Amy, Alex, Joseph, Michael and Kora along with five great grandchildren: Grace, Elizabeth, Mary Ann, Dominic and Julia. In addition to her husband Nicholas, Rita wa preceded in death by a daughter Marlene Bettis, a son Bernard Pernia, two brothers: Johnny Murray, Emmett Murray, a sister Stella Diamond and a grandson Tommy.
