Lawrence J. Zimmerman Sr., 92 years, of Ida, died Sunday at Regency Hospital, Toledo. Friends may call from 2 - 9 p.m. Thursday at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, with Rosary service at 8 p.m. conducted by the Fr. Bower Council, Knights of Columbus. He will lie in state from 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ida, until the Mass of Resurrection at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Michael Woroniewicz will officiate. Cremation will follow, with burial of cremains at a later date. Born Feb 5, 1919, in Ida Township, Lawrence was the son of Louis B. and Mary C (Saum) Zimmerman. He married Dorothy Chapman in 1983 in Chicago, Ill. She died in 2004. Lawrence served with the U.S. army 1941- 1943 and was employed by Consolidated Paper Co. of Monroe for 29 1/2 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Ida; Father Stanley A. Bowers Council 8698, Knights of Columbus, in Dundee and was a life member of Lynn C. Weeman Post 514, American Legion, in Temperance, also serving as its District Two chaplain for many years. He was also a life member of the Forty and Eight. Lawrence loved farming, gardening and collecting stamps. Survivorrs include sons Lawrence (Nadya), Don (Deb), Bob (Betty); daughters Mary Anne (Gary) Davis, Sue (Chet) Stock, Jane (Dennis) Meyer; brother Elmer; 16 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy' brother Melvin and sister Lillian Bury. Memorial contributions for Mr. Zimmerman may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
