Dennis was adopted by Leonard Segur after Leonard's marriage to Elsie, Dennis's mother. Elsie's maiden name was Walters. Father Clarence Thompson.

After a long battle with numerous medical problems, Dennis Segur left this earth on July 25, 2007, at his home in Lake Plesant in Osseo, Michigan. Though short, his life was full. Born and raised in Lambertville, Michigan, he was a star athlete in football, basketball and track in Bedford High School. He served in the U.S. Army in Munich, Germany, where his first child was born. Back home after the service, he moved to California, where he choose a career as an officer with the City of Upland Police. In 1972, he was awarded his Associate in Science Degree from Chaffee College. Earning the rank of sergeant, he trained recruits on rules and standards. After eithteen years with the police force, he was injured on the job, and retired. He returned to Michigan where among other things, he managed a restaurant, and worked as a real estate agent until fully retiring in 2002.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (nee Henry) of Osseo, Michigan; his sons, Deiter (Virginia) and Darren, of Tracy, California; his step daughters, Nicola Noetic of Eugene, Oregon, Michelle (Scott) Donaldson of Albuquerque, Mexico, and Dr Amy (Rajesh) Bagchi of Fort Collins, Colorado. He is also survived by his mother, Elsie (nee Walters) of Maumee, Ohio; his brother, David (Suzanne) of Mt. Pleasent, South Carollina; brother, Douglas, of Toledo, Ohio; his sister, Debra (Charles) Gallagher of San Antonio, Texas, and sister, Brenda Stalder of Erie, Michigan. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Dennis was predeceased by his father, Clarence Thompson, and his stepfather, Leonard Segur, both of Lambertville, Michigan.

Visitation is Tuesday, July 31, at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N Main St., Sylvania, Ohion from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. where services will be conducted on August 1 at 1:00 p.m.. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park, Contributations may be made in Dennis' memory to Upland Police Officer's Association, 1499 W. 13th St., Upland California 91786.
