Barbara H. Leonard Jan. 13, 1918 - Feb. 8, 2004
SPRINGFIELD Ohio - Barbara H. Leonard, 86, of Springfield, formerly of Temperance and Toledo, died Sunday at the Masonic Home in Springfield.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bedford Funeral chapel, Temperance where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. The Revs. David Claussen, Donald Leonard and Ronald Foulk will co-officiate. Interment will be in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, Toledo.
Born Jan, 13, 1918, in Syracuse, N.Y., she was the daugher of Herbert and Agnes (Serber) Vernier. She married Frederick Leonard Feb. 2, 1935, in Angola, Ind. He died Nov. 27.
She had worked many years as a clerk in the children's shoe department at the Lion Store in Westgate Shopping Plaza.
She was active in several churches including Upton United Methodist Church, Hope United Methodist Church, Fait Church of the Nazarene, Mayfair Plymouth Congregational Church in Toledo and Hight Street Church of the Nazarene. She was a member of several of the church choirs. She also was active in the Ladies Missionary Society of Upton Evangelical United Bretheran Church and served as its president for several years.
She and her husband played harmonica duets for church services and other functions.
A seamstress, she demonstrated sewing machines for the Singer Sewing Machine Co. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
Surviving are three sons, Frederick of Bradenton, Fla., the Rev. Donald (Cathy) of Defiance, Ohio, and Norman (Robin) of Zephyrhills, Fla; three daughters, Virginia (the Rev Ronald) Foulk of Eaton, Ohio, Susan (Danny) DeVault of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and Cathy (Richard) Wamhoff of Ariz.; a brother, Winfield of Westland; a sister Gloria Price of Lambertville; 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Yvonne; 10 brothers and a sisters, and a grand-daughter, Danielle DeVault.
Memorials may be made to the Altzheimer's Association.
