While Arthur was in WWII, he was wounded and had to have a steel plate put in his head. He was reciptiant of a purple heart. While recovering he was a patient at Battle Creek, MI. I remember going to visit with Grandma Pernia.
Monroe Evening News Obituary January 20, 1972 ARTHUR J. PERNIA Arthur J. Pernia, 64 of 6517 Telegraph Rd., Bedford Township, died of cancer at 3 a.m. today in Flower Hospital, Toledo. He had been in poor health since June an in a serious condition since July.
Friends may call in the Allore Funeral Home after 7 tonight. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home and at 11 Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Temperance of which he was a member. The Rev. Leo Smith will officiate and burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites, to be conducted by the Ida Lynn C. Weeman Post 514, American Legion. A prayer service will be at 8 p.m. tomorrow in the funeral home.
The Son of William and Cora Pernia, he was born March 20, 1907, in LaSalle and had lived in the LaSalle and Bedford Township all his life.
He served as private in the Army from April 24,1941, to Nov. 19, 1941. He was reactivated in April 3, 1942, and served until Oct . 26. 1944. He was in the Eurpean Theater. He retired Feb. 24. 1968, after having worked 27 years for the Kaiser Jeep Corp., in Toledo. He married Rose Lufts July 29, 1941 in Toledo.
Surviving are his wife; a son, John, of Toledo; three daughters, Mrs. Bob (Sandra) Moore of Brunswick, GA., Mrs. Richard (Jean) McDole of Toledo and Miss Jane at home; four brothers, Raymond of LaSalle, Nick of Detroit, William of Monroe and Donald of Dayton, OH; three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Wood of Erie, Mrs Ethel Freet of Monroe and Mrs. Thelia Timmons of Detroit, and five grandchildren.
Two sons and a sister preceded him in death.

Services for Arthur J. Pernia, 64 of 6517 Telegraph Rd., who died Thursday in Flower Hospital, Toledo, were Saturday in the Allore Funeral Home, Monroe and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Temperance, The Rev. Leo Smith officiated and the burial was in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, LaSalle.
Bearers were Leonard Segur, Gilbert, Gregory and Bernard Pernia, Donald Poupard and Donald Lufts.
Military rites in the cemetery were by members of the Lynn C. Weeman Post 514, American Legion Ida, Russell Thompson was commander, Donald Nickel, Chaplain, and C. John Holtz, service officer. John Gotha and Al Johnson were color bearers, and Ted Surgalewski and Ivan Harris, color guards.
Members of the firing squad were Sergeant Tober Slawter, Robert Gramlich, Kurt Schatte, Lloyd Slaughter and Gary Gorns. Collen Cunham and Nancy Carr were buglers and Al Jeffery, Norman Smith and Carl Henning, members in attendance.
