    ELMER JESSE CHAPMAN
    December 26, 1991

    Mr. Elmer J. Chapman of Chesterfield Township, passed away on Thursday morning in St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital at the age of 90 years.

    Born in Memphis Michigan on September 11, 1901. He was united in marriage with the former Mildred Mae Frieslein. Elmer lived in Memphis, Wales Township, Casco Township, Greenwood Township, Fort Gratiot Township, Tecumsch and after retiring in 1967, he moved to Little Twins Lake in Kalkaska County, in 1978 to Traverse City and to the Presbyterian Village in New Baltimore in 1986.

    Mr. Chapman passed the St. Clair Conty teacher's examination in June 1919, received his A. B. Degree from the State Normal College in Ypsilanti in 1932 and during the next eleven years he received his Master's Degree from the University of Michigan.

    Elmer spent a life-time in the field of education. He taught in the following schools: Lamb School in Wales Township, Upleger School in Casco Township, East Greenwood School, Greenwood Township, Gardendale School in Fort Gratiot Township and the Henry Ford I Centenial School near Tecumsch and spent twenty-four years in the Port Huron Schools. During which he served in the following positions: teacher, principal, Director at Safety Education, Director of Audio-Visual Education, Director of Elementary Edication and Director of the Department of Personnel whie he organized.

    Mr. Chapman had attended the Holloway Presbyterian Church in Tecumsch and was a member ot the First Presbyterian Church of Port Huron and served as a Clerk of session for a number of years.

    Mr. Chapman is survived by twenty nieces and nephews and many great and great great nieces and nephews. Elmer was predeceased by his wife, Mildred, his parents, two sisters, Margaret Williams and Ella Mabel Chapman and five brothers. Richard, Malcom, Ralph, Arthur and Kenneth Chapman.

    Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 30, 1991 at 11:00 A.M. in the Will and Schwarzkoft Funeral Home, 233 North Gratiot Avenue, Mount Clemens with the Reverand William Parrott officating.

    Family and friends will meet at 1:00 P.M. on Monday at Spring Hills Cemetery, Fargo, Michigan.
